Hilton Updates Honors Program with New Tier, Lowered Milestones
Hilton Honors is getting an update for 2026, making it easier for members to obtain status while also introducing a new top tier.
About the Changes to Hilton Honors
Next year, Hilton’s loyalty program Hilton Honors will add a new elite tier: Diamond Reserve. Members who reach this top status will enjoy such perks as Confirmable Upgrade Rewards at the time of booking, highest priority for space-available upgrades, guaranteed 4 p.m. late checkout, and more. To unlock Diamond Reserve status, Honors members must reach 80 nights and spend at least $18,000 (in United States Dollars) per year.
Meanwhile, Hilton is adjusting the requirements for two of its existing status tiers. Now, earning Hilton Honors Gold status will require 25 nights per year versus the previous requirement of 40 nights. Similarly, Diamond status can now be reached after 50 nights, which is 10 fewer nights. The requirements for Silver status will remain the same at 10 nights.
Despite the adjusted requirements for Gold and Diamond status, the perks will remain the same. Upon reaching Gold, Honors members can enjoy space-available room upgrades (up to Executive Floor room types), a daily food and beverage credit, and an 80% bonus on Base Points earned from stays. The Diamond tier ups that bonus points rate to 100% while also adding executive lounge access, Premium WiFi, and more. Additionally, Diamond status space-available room upgrades can include 1-bedroom suites.
These program changes will debut on January 1st, 2026.
What They’re Saying:
Discussing these updates, Hilton’s president and CEO Chris Nassetta said, “Members have told us they are looking for more personal recognition and meaningful rewards throughout their travel journey. Today we are proud to usher in the next chapter for Hilton Honors by delivering on what matters most to our members: making loyalty both more accessible and more rewarding, in more places around the world.”
Nassetta continued, “At a time when many loyalty programs feel increasingly interchangeable, we’re strengthening Hilton Honors for every member – from our superior upgrade benefits for our elite members to more ways to dream, stay, earn and redeem Points across our growing portfolio of more than 9,000 hotels.”
My Thoughts:
While I actually appreciate Hilton’s strategy here, speaking selfishly, this change is likely negative for me. Since my American Express Platinum Card includes Hilton Honors Gold Status, by making this tier more accessible, Hilton is effectively diluting the value of it. That wouldn’t matter as much in some cases, but since the perks of Honors status are dependent on availability, more customers with status means it’s less likely for guests at lower levels to be able to enjoy those perks.
That said, with Gold being a mid-tier status, it’s never been that exciting anyway. Therefore, with benefits such as the Food & Beverage credit and bonus points still in place, I suppose the update is mostly moot for those like me who gain status from a credit card instead of through stays.
