GasBuddy Introduces Pay with GasBuddy+ MasterCard Debit Card
The popular app GasBuddy is rolling out a new and improved version of its gas rewards debit card.
About Pay with GasBuddy+:
GasBuddy has announced the launch of the Pay with GasBuddy+ card. This debit card builds upon the previous Pay with GasBuddy card with some new features. Most notably, in contrast to the original card which could only be used at gas stations, the new product allows for purchases anywhere MasterCard is accepted.
Using the free Pay with GasBuddy+ card, customers can save up to 33¢ per gallon. This includes 3¢ off per gallon by default plus up to 30¢ off per gallon with activated Deal Alert offers in the GasBuddy app. Additionally, cardholders can save 3¢ per gallon for every $25 spent on non-fuel purchases made inside convenience stores. Note that, in order to earn these rewards, cardholders must opt into Auto Pay and connect an eligible bank account.
Meanwhile, those with GasBuddy Premium can save up to a total of 50¢ per gallon with activated Deal Alert offers. Premium membership currently comes at a cost of $9.99 per month and includes 24-hour roadside assistance (up to 2 events per year) among other benefits.
With the introduction of the Pay with GasBuddy+ card, the regular Pay with GasBuddy card is being discontinued. While a shutdown date has yet to be announced, GasBuddy states that is will be retired sometime this year.
What they’re saying:
Announcing the card, Todd Gulbransen — SVP and GM of Consumer Programs for GasBuddy’s parent company PDI Technologies — said, “The Pay with GasBuddy+ card isn’t just another fuel card—it’s a strategic bridge connecting consumer convenience with unprecedented value for both GasBuddy users and brand partners. By seamlessly integrating personalized offers, real-time spending insights, and exclusive partner benefits, we’re transforming how people interact with their savings tools at the fuel and convenience locations they choose.”
My thoughts:
As a GasBuddy customer who, admittedly, hasn’t used his card in a while, I figured something was up when I got a notice saying that my Pay with GasBuddy card was being shut down due to inactivity. However, I honestly wasn’t expecting the company to replace the card with another free option. So, kudos to them for sticking to that mission.
Even though I didn’t use my previous Pay with GasBuddy card all that much (since we honestly don’t spend much on gas these days), I did apply for a new Pay with GasBuddy+ card. So stay tuned for a full review on Fioney in the near future.
