Chase Freedom Unlimited Ups Welcome Offer for a Limited Time

A popular Chase card is currently offering an increased cashback welcome bonus.

About the Chase Freedom Unlimited Welcome Offer

For a limited time, new Chase Freedom Unlimited cardholders can score an enhanced welcome bonus. Right now, the card is offering $300 cashback after spending $500 on the card within the first three months from account opening. That’s a 50% increase over the standard welcome bonus of $200 back after $500 in spending.

On top of that, cardholders can still take advantage of the card’s low intro APR offer. The Chase Freedom Unlimited offers 0% APR on balance transfers and purchases for 15 months from account opening. However, balance transfer fees may apply. Specifically, a transfer fee of $5 or 3% (whichever is greater) applies to transfers made within the first 60 days. After that, the standard balance transfer fee is the greater of $5 or 5%.

More on the Chase Freedom Unlimited Card:

With the Chase Freedom Unlimited, cardholders can earn a minimum of 1.5% cashback on every purchase. Meanwhile, the card also earns 3% back on dining purchases and 3% back on drugstore purchases. Plus, travel bookings made through Chase Travel earn 5% back.

Of course, there’s also another Freedom card to consider: the Chase Freedom Flex. This option retains the same 3% and 5% categories, but earns 1% on all other purchases instead of 1.5%. In exchange, though, the Freedom Flex features a rotating 5% bonus category each quarter. For example, through December 31st, Freedom Flex customers can earn up to 5% back at Old Navy and Department Stores as well as 9% back on Chase Travel purchases (the standard 5% plus a 4% bonus). The bonus category picks for the first quarter of 2026 are expected to be announced soon. Alas, the Freedom Flex is currently offering its standard bonus: $200 back after spending $500 on the card within the first three months.

Neither the Chase Freedom Unlimited nor the Chase Freedom Flex carry an annual fee.

My Thoughts:

There’s a lot to like — nay, love — about this offer. First, while $200 back for $500 in spending was already generous, $300 for $500 in spending is a fantastic reward-to-spending ratio in my opinion. Plus, I love how easy this bonus is to obtain compared to other welcome offers that require thousands in spending.

The other thing I like is that the intro APR deal is also valid. While I don’t love the idea of carrying a balance on a credit card at all, there’s no denying that this is a useful benefit during the holiday shopping season.

My only downside is the long-term viability of the card. A 1.5% base is nice, but there are 2% flat rate cards, such as the Wells Fargo Active Cash card you could opt for instead. Granted, the 3% dining and drug store categories may make up for some of that… but I still feel as though most people would be better served by either a 2% card or going with something like the Capital One Savor, which offers 3% in a greater number of categories.

But, if it’s a quick bonus and some holiday shopping float time you’re after, then this Chase Freedom Unlimited offer is a solid one.

Lessons From a First-Time Home Buyer: The Good and Bad of Door-to-Door Solicitors

When we first moved into our home, I noted that one of my least favorite things about living in a house (as compared to an access-controlled apartment building) was the ability for solicitors and other strangers to knock on our door. To be fair, this hasn't happened with too much frequency — and there is a range of just how obnoxious they are. Well, recently, we had two very different...

2025 SoFi Checking and Savings Review

Ever since I started taking an interest in the FinTech sector, one company whose name I’ve seen pop up over and over again is SoFi. That was later sent into overdrive as the company has not only become a household name thanks to its stadium naming rights deal but also because of the company’s continued product expansions. The most interesting development in my mind is SoFi’s acquisition of Golden Pacific...
