Wyndham Rewards Revamps Co-Branded Credit Card Line-Up
Barclays and Wyndham are making some updates to their co-branded credit card portfolio — including the introduction of a new premium option.
About the Reimagined Wyndham Rewards Credit Cards:
This week, Wyndham Rewards refreshed its line-up of credit cards for the first time since 2020. Not only is the hotel brand making updates to its Earner and Earner+ cards but it’s also debuting the Earner Premier Card.
Starting with that new card, the Earner Premier carries an annual fee of $395. The card earns 8x points on Hotels by Wyndham purchases as well as 4x on eligible dining, 4x on groceries, and 4x on select travel — which includes gas, EV charging, airfare, car rentals, rideshare, tolls, and trains. All other purchases, excluding Vacation Club down payments, will earn 1x. As for perks, cardholders can enjoy a 25% discount on redemptions and will have the ability to redeem points for statement credits with Points Payback.
Some other perks of the Earner Premier include Wyndham Rewards Diamond status, a complimentary Wyndham Rewards Insider membership, a $100 Wyndham Hotels & Resorts credit (select brands only), $10 per month in meal delivery credits, up to $100 streaming credits, a $65 warehouse membership credit, and more. Plus, each anniversary year, cardholders can earn 30,000 bonus points.
Moving on to the Earner+ card, its annual fee has increased from $75 to $95. This card earns 6x points on Hotels by Wyndham purchases. While it previously also earned 6x on gas, that’s now been adjusted to be part of a new 4x on travel category, which includes gas along with EV charging, airfare, car rentals, rideshare, tolls, and trains. It also continues to earn 4x on dining and 4x on grocery stores.
Another new addition to the Earner+ card is a semi-annual meal delivery credit. With this, cardholders can earn up to $25 back every six months. Also new is that cardholders will now have the Points Payback option, allowing them to use points toward a statement credit. Finally, the anniversary points bonus has been increased to 15,000 from 7,500 previously.
Lastly, the no-annual-fee Earner card is seeing some similar changes. It still earns 5x on Hotels by Wyndham purchases, but the 5x on gas has been downgraded to 3x. At the same time, though, dining and grocery purchases will now both earn 3x instead of 2x.
What They’re Saying:
Commenting on the “reimagined” cards, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts Chief Commercial Officer Scott Strickland said, “Loyalty programs work best when travelers don’t have to decode them. Wyndham Rewards has always stood apart by making earning and redemption straightforward, attainable and predictable—our updated cards are a direct extension of that philosophy.” He added, “By pairing faster everyday earning with bigger free night discounts, Member Level upgrades and benefits that enhance the stay itself, we’re giving members a clearer, more rewarding path from routine spending to real travel value.”
My Thoughts:
There are obviously some tradeoffs with these Wyndham card updates. However, for me, the biggest new addition is the ability to redeem points for a statement credit. Granted, while I appreciate this as an option, I don’t yet know what valuation cardholders would get via Points Payback — so this isn’t a recommendation of that feature.
It’s also interesting to see Wyndham enter the premium card market. The Earner Premier also has some interesting credits for a hotel card, such as the $65 warehouse club perk. I’m not personally in the market for this card, but I could see it being a decent option for the right person.
