Frontier Airlines Re-Ups, Expands Partnership with Barclays
Frontier and Barclays have extended their long-standing co-branded credit card partnership.
About the Frontier-Barclays Partnership Renewal:
This week, Frontier Airlines and Barclays US Consumer Bank announced that they’d reached a long-term renewal deal. In doing so, the companies reaffirmed a commitment to expand the value of the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard as well as the overall Frontier Miles program. The two companies have worked together for more than two decades.
Notably, under this renewed deal, Barclays will have the ability to market its savings and personal loan products to Frontier customers. Details about this specific aspect of the agreement are expected to be revealed “in the coming months.”
More on the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard:
With the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard, Frontier passengers can enjoy special perks as well as earn Frontier Miles.
First, the card earns 5x miles on eligible purchases made on FlyFrontier.com. When combined with the 10x miles earned from being a Frontier Miles member, that’s a total of 15 Miles per dollar spent. Additionally, cardholders can earn 3x miles on dining purchases. All other purchases earn 1x miles.
One key perk of the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard is that cardholders get two free checked bags on Frontier flights. Credit card customers also enjoy priority boarding in Group 4. Plus, cardholders who spend at least $2,500 or more on purchases with their card during their cardmember year can earn a $100 flight voucher upon renewal.
As part of a welcome offer, cardholders can also unlock instant Gold Elite Status after making their first purchase with the card (within 90 days of opening the account). That Gold status includes such benefits as free seat upgrades. Meanwhile, those who spend at least $1,000 in purchases on the card within their first 90 days can earn 60,000 bonus miles.
Currently, the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard carries an annual fee of $99 per year. Note that this fee must be paid in full in order to be eligible for the welcome offer bonus miles.
What They’re Saying:
“Barclays has been an outstanding partner for many years, and together we’ve built a program that delivers real value for our customers,” said Bobby Schroeter, Chief Commercial Officer, Frontier Airlines. “As we continue expanding the benefits of Frontier Miles and enhancing the travel experience, the FRONTIER Airlines World Mastercard® remains an important part of our loyalty strategy. This renewal positions us to continue investing in new benefits, rewarding customer loyalty and giving travelers even more ways to save every time they fly.”
My Thoughts:
This news comes on the heels of Barclays also renewing its credit card partnership with Barnes & Noble. Although between the two products, I think the Frontier card is the overall winner.
In truth, a big reason why I chose to write about this news is that I’m really interested to see what Frontier and Barclays mean when they say that the bank will have the opportunity to market savings and loan products to Frontier customers. This probably just means sending emails with special offers — but it would be interesting if Frontier and Barclays cooked up an arrangement like Bask Bask has with American, allowing customers to earn AAdvantage miles instead of cash. That seems like a long shot, but I’ll be keeping an eye out just in case.
