Dosh Announces Sunsetting of Cashback App
The card-linked cashback platform Dosh has announced that it will be shutting down its mobile app next month.
About the closure:
Over the weekend, Dosh sent an email to users revealing their plans to sunset the app. The last day that users will be able to make qualifying transitions to earn cash back will be January 16th. Then, the app will officially shut down on February 28th.
Ahead of the closure, Dosh is lowering the withdrawal limit from the regular $15 to just $0.01. This means that customers will be able to claim any cashback they’ve earned on the app and request distribution to a PayPal or Venmo account. Users will have until February 23rd to request a withdrawal. After that date, any balances will be forfeited.
As part of their email, Dosh noted that, while the app is shutting down, users may be able to access cashback offers via banking rewards programs. This would suggest that the company will continue to operate its rewards network, including powering cashback offers for the likes of the Venmo debit card.
About Dosh:
Dosh was a cashback tool that offered deals at restaurants and retailers. In contrast to platforms such as Rakuten which require customers to use specific links to obtain cashback on purchases, Dosh offered card-linked deals, allowing for effortless earnings. In addition to those in-store offers, Dosh also featured some online deals as well as a travel booking platform.
What they’re saying:
In a message posted in the Dosh app after the news was announced, the company wrote, “As we prepare to wind down, we wanted to thank the millions of users who have supported us throughout the years. It’s been an exciting adventure and we hope that you were able to earn some cashback along the way.”
My thoughts:
My experience goes back several years — and the app holds a special place in my heart as it was one of the first tools I reviewed and my video about it remains one of my most-viewed on YouTube. Beyond that, while the app did see a few changes over the years (some for better and some for worse), it remained a solid cashback option overall. Plus, there were several instances where I was able to “double dip” on cashback thanks to Dosh. For all of those reasons, I’ll very much miss the app but wish the company well as it apparently continues on behind the scenes.
