Chase Freedom Announces 5% Bonus Categories for Q2 2025
As Chase’s celebration of its Freedom card’s 15th anniversary rolls on, its picks for the second quarter’s bonus categories have been announced.
About Chase’s Second Quarter 2025 Bonus Categories:
Starting April 1st, Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex customers can earn up to 5% back in two categories: Amazon and Select Streaming Services.
The Amazon category includes goods purchased at Amazon.com as well as digital downloads, Amazon.com Gift Cards, Amazon Fresh orders, and even Amazon Prime subscriptions. Additionally, purchases from Whole Foods Market (in-store or online) will also qualify. However, purchases made on Amazon’s international sites will not be eligible for this bonus.
For the Select Streaming Services category, Chase has a specific list of eligible services —including some new additions. Not only will services outside of this list not qualify but any purchases outside of subscription services (music or video downloads, equipment, gift cards, etc.) will not earn the bonus rate. Eligible options include:
- Disney+
- Hulu
- ESPN+
- Netflix
- Sling
- Vudu
- Fubo TV
- Apple Music
- SiriusXM
- Pandora
- Spotify
- YouTube TV
- Max (NEW)
- Paramount+ (NEW)
- Peacock (NEW)
- Showtime (NEW)
As always, the 5% rate is capped at a total of $1,500 in combined bonus category spending. In turn, cardholders can earn a maximum of $75 cashback from this offer during the quarter. Also, customers will need to activate this deal on ChaseBonus.com before June 14th.
While these are the two official categories for the quarter, as Chase celebrates 15 years of its Freedom product line, it’s teased that, “cardmembers can expect a year full of surprises in store, including special categories and perks.” Sure enough, the issuer recently announced that customers could earn up to 5% back on the Tax Preparation and Insurance purchases between March 1st and March 31st. These options join the other Q1 2025 bonus category picks (Grocery Stores, Fitness Clubs; Hair, Nails, and Spa Services; and Norwegian Cruise Lines) and are included in the $1,500 combined bonus category spending cap.
My Thoughts:
For many shoppers, Amazon is a layup of a bonus category as the platform offers a vast variety of products to choose from. That makes it easy to reach the $1,500 per quarter spending cap to max out this deal.
That’s good news since what the Amazon category is paired with leaves something to be desired. In my opinion, “select streaming services” has become a popular rewards category for credit card issuers as it gets people’s attention and sounds exciting on paper… but I suspect that people don’t actually spend as much on these services as they think. Although, if you are spending $500 a month on streaming services and will max out on this aspect of the bonus category selections alone, you may want to reconsider your entertainment strategy.
Lastly, I’m very curious to see what surprise category Chase might unveil for Q2, so I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out.
