Capital One Brings Back Enhanced Welcome Bonus for Savor Card
A popular rewards credit card is once again offering a lucrative limited-time welcome bonus.
About the Capital One Savor Card Enhanced Welcome Offer:
For a limited time, new Capital One Savor card applicants can earn an increased welcome bonus. Now, cardholders can earn $250 in cashback after spending $500 on the card within their first three months from account opening. This bonus tops the already-lucrative standard offer for the Savor, which is $200 back after $500 in spending during the first three months. Currently, Capital One has not announced an end date for this deal, but has stated that it is limited.
More on the Capital One Savor Rewards Card:
With the Capital One Savor Card, customers can earn 3% in some key categories. These include dining, grocery stores (excluding superstores such as Walmart and Target), entertainment, and select streaming services. Plus, cardmembers can earn 5% cashback on hotels, vacation rentals, and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel. All other purchases earn 1% back.
The Savor Rewards Card has no annual fee. Cardholders also don’t pay any foreign transaction fees on purchases made while outside of the United States
For those who don’t have “excellent” credit, Capital One also offers other versions of the Savor card. While the Savor Rewards for Good Credit does not have a welcome offer, it still features the same reward categories and earnings. Meanwhile, the Savor Rewards for Students card offers rewards plus a limited-time $100 bonus after spending $300 on the card within three months. Finally, the SavorOne Rewards card is built for those with only “fair” credit. Again, this version has the same rewards but does not have a welcome bonus and carries an annual fee of $39.
My Thoughts:
No matter how you slice it, getting 50% of your minimum spending requirement back as a bonus is a strong ratio. Plus, $500 in three months should be an easily attainable amount for most applicants. Add in the fact that the Capital One Savor remains one of my most-recommended credit cards and clearly this is a knock-out offer IMHO.
That said, one thing I’m not clear on is whether newly issued Savor cards operate on the Discover payment network or the Mastercard network. I looked for clues on the Capital One site but couldn’t find anything in the terms or on the card design. While the payment network shouldn’t make a huge difference domestically, for those who travel abroad frequently, the Mastercard version might be better. Still, I don’t think that’s reason enough not to take advantage of this great deal while it’s available.
