USA Today Names Allegiant Best Frequent Flyer Program
USA Today has released the results of its annual Readers’ Choice Awards for both Best Airline Credit Card and Best Frequent Flyer Program.
About the Readers’ Choice Results:
According to USA Today readers, Allegiant Airlines has the Best Airline Credit Card and Best Frequent Flyer Program in 2025. This marks the second consecutive year that the budget carrier has topped both lists.
In the Frequent Flyer Program category, second place went to another budget airline: Spirit. American Airlines, Air Canada, and Delta rounded out the top five. Meanwhile, the runner-up in the Best Airline Credit Card category was the JetBlue Plus Mastercard. This was followed by the Citi AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard from American, Spirit’s Free Spirit Travel More World Elite Mastercard, and the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard (also from American Airlines).
More About Allways Rewards:
Allegiant’s Allways Rewards program is unique as it focuses on leisure travelers rather than frequent flyers exclusively. Once customers join the free program, they’ll be able to earn 1 point per dollar spent on Allegiant bookings — or 2 points per dollar spent on itineraries over $500. Each point is valued at 1¢ and can be redeemed toward future Allegiant bookings with no minimum redemption required. Plus, points only expire after 24 months of inactivity.
The Allways Rewards Visa builds upon this program by not only giving cardholders more point-earning opportunities but also adding potential money-saving benefits. In terms of rewards, the card earns an additional 3x points on Allegiant purchases as well as 2x on dining and 1x on all other purchases. As for perks, Allways Rewards cardholders enjoy complimentary priority boarding and one free beverage when flying Allegiant. The Allways Rewards Visa carries an annual fee of just $59.
My Thoughts:
I do need to point out that these awards are based on a reader poll and not some master rubric. To that point, I know for a fact that Allegiant has been campaigning for this honor by emailing members and asking for their vote. That’s not to say that this title is undeserved, but you should have your prerequisite grain of salt at the ready.
Personally, I wouldn’t call Allways Rewards the Best Frequent Flyer Program — but I might consider it the Best Airline Loyalty Program. That might sound like a difference without a distinction but I’d argue that the entire point of Allways Rewards is that it’s not just for frequent flyers. Instead, what makes the program great is that customers can easily tap their rewards and, technically, really only need to fly Allegiant twice in order to make the program worth it (the first time to earn the points and the second time to redeem them).
As for the Allways Rewards Visa, I do think this is a solid card with tremendous savings potential for those who fly Allegiant at least a couple of times per year. Would I say it’s the best? That’s up for debate — but I can easily see why it’s in the conversation.
