Another price hike has hit CLEAR+ subscriptions — but those with certain credit cards won’t feel the impact.
About the CLEAR+ Pricing Change and Credit Card Update:
The security biometrics subscription service CLEAR+ has announced new pricing. Now, the membership will increase to $219 from the previous $209. However, Delta SkyMiles/United MileagePlus members can still save $10, while those with Silver, Gold, or Platinum can save $40. Delta Diamond Medallions and United Premier 1K members can save $90. Elsewhere, Atmos Rewards members can sign up for $199 and earn 1,500 points for enrolling in CLEAR+ for the first time.
This marks the fourth CLEAR+ price hike in as many years. Previously, subscription prices went from their long-held $179 rate to $189 in 2022 and up to $199 in 2024. The prior $209 rate went into effect in May 2025.
With this latest increase, some rewards cards that offer CLEAR+ credits are adjusting in response. Websites for both the American Express Platinum Card and American Express Green Card have been updated to show an annual credit of up to $219 versus $209. Notably, that perk alone exceeds the Green Card’s $150 annual fee.
More About CLEAR+:
With CLEAR+, members can save time at airport security by confirming their identity via biometrics. CLEAR replaces the traditional ID/boarding pass scan at TSA checkpoints — although it does not impact the security screening itself. Because of this, the service can be combined with TSA Precheck, although it can also be used without.
While CLEAR+ members have previously had to stop at a CLEAR kiosk to confirm their identity and proceed to the checkpoint, the service has continued to invest its eGates, which it says are able to verify members’ identity in under five seconds. CLEAR says its on track to convert its entire network to eGates by the end of 2026. At the same time, the service has expanded to new locations, recently debuting at Indianapolis International Airport (IND) and Northwest Arkansas National Airport (XNA).
My Thoughts:
It’s wild how much a CLEAR+ membership has increased in price since I’ve had the service. Back in the day, I was able to get a discounted membership with the Delta SkyMiles account, add my wife to my account, and still come in under the total credit amount offered by my Amex Platinum. Those days are long gone, which is why I sadly no longer maintain a membership for my wife.
At the same time, I’m not sure how effective the service is these days. Granted, I have yet to experience one of their eGates — but when I used CLEAR+ at MCO a few months ago, it was somehow slower than just going through the regular TSA Precheck lane. I think this was due to getting people set up in the system to prepare for the eGates, but it was still disappointing.
Of course, since Amex is increasing the credit to still cover the entire membership price, I’ll continue to hold a subscription. So, hopefully I’ll have some better experiences as CLEAR+ eGates roll out fully.
