Wells Fargo Adds Virgin Atlantic to Points Transfer Program

Wells Fargo Adds Virgin Atlantic to Points Transfer Program

Wells Fargo has added another popular travel currency to its Point Transfer portal.

About the new addition and Wells Fargo Point Transfer:

Those with Wells Fargo credit cards can now transfer their Wells Fargo Rewards points to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club or Virgin Red. These transfers are completed at a rate of 1:1, meaning that one Wells Fargo Rewards point will be converted to 1 Virgin point. To get started, cardholders must link a Virgin Atlantic Flying Club or Virgin Red account (those who don’t already have an account can create one for free). Then, when they’re ready to transfer, they can select which program they’d like to convert their points to. Virgin notes that transfers will typically be completed immediately, but may take up to 72 hours in some cases.

Previously, Wells Fargo debuted their Wells Fargo Rewards travel transfer partners program in April with the launch of the Autograph Journey card. Other current transfer options include Choice Privileges, Air France-KLM Flying Blue, avianca lifemiles, British Airways Executive Club, AerClub, and Iberia Plus. All of those options transfer at 1:1, with the exception of Choice which is 1:2 (meaning 1 Wells Fargo point results in 2 Choice rewards points).

Other Virgin Red partners:

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club/Virgin Red has previously served as a travel transfer partner for several reward currencies. This includes American Express Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Citi ThankYou Points, Capital One miles, and more. Plus, Virgin is also a transfer partner of Bilt Rewards — which offers a credit card issued by Wells Fargo.

Also notable is that the company recently launched a Virgin Red co-branded credit card for the U.S. market. Issued by Synchrony, the rewards card allows customers to earn 3x points on Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Hotels, and Virgin Voyages purchases as well as 2x on dining, 2x on groceries, 2x on select streaming services, and 2x on EV charging purchases. Additionally, cardholders can unlock exclusive “Personal Perks” by spending at least $15,000 per year on the card.

My thoughts:

Virgin Atlantic seems very keen on partnering with other loyalty currencies, so it’s not really a surprise that Wells Fargo would be able to lock them down for their expanding program. That’s especially true since Bilt already had a relationship with them. Still, this is great news for Wells Fargo cardholders. Plus, since Virgin is featured as a transfer partner for so many other currencies, travelers have plenty of options for pooling their points and miles for a Virgin Atlantic redemption.
