Walmart Offering 50% Off Annual Walmart+ Membership

Those looking to join Walmart+ can currently do so at a discount.

About the Walmart+ Limited Time Offer:

For a limited time, new Walmart+ members can join for half the regular annual cost. Through July 15th, Walmart is offering a one-year membership for $49 — versus the regular $98 fee. Note that this offer is not available for existing annual members.

Those who do take advantage of this special offer will also have early access to Walmart’s latest sales event. According to the retailer’s site, this sale will include tech deals of up to 50% off, up to 40% of outdoor essentials, up to 40% off televisions, and much more. While the event officially begins at midnight ET on July 8th, eligible Walmart+ members will be able to shop deals starting at 7 p.m. ET on July 7th. However, this early access only applies to paid Walmart+ customers, meaning that those who sign up for the 30-day free trial won’t be able to take advantage of this offer.

In Context:

This special offer and upcoming sale happen to coincide with Amazon’s Prime Day. The popular retailer will hold its annual celebration from July 8th through the 11th this year. Meanwhile, Walmart hosted its Walmart+ Week at the end of April (running into the beginning of May). Features from that promotion included increased gas savings, free Burger King menu items, bonus Walmart Cash, and more.

More About Walmart+:

Launched in 2020, Walmart+ includes a variety of money-saving features for members. Walmart+ customers enjoy free local delivery on orders over $35 as well as free shipping on any-sized order. Plus, members have exclusive access to Walmart’s Scan & Go feature, allowing them to save time at checkout by using the app to pay for their items and scanning a QR code at self-checkout kiosks (select locations also offer dedicated Walmart+ Scan & Go lanes).

Beyond those core perks, Walmart+ also includes a number of benefits via partner brands. For example, members can save 10¢ per gallon at participating Exxon, Mobil, and Murphy gas stations (as well as Walmart stations). Additionally, customers can claim a complimentary Paramount+ Essential plan subscription, get 24/7 tele-veterinary support from Pawp, and save 25% on Burger King orders placed via the BK app or website.

As noted, Walmart+ membership typically costs $98 per year, although a $12.95 monthly is also offered. Additionally, the American Express Platinum Card currently includes a monthly credit toward a Walmart+ subscription.

My Thoughts:

Admittedly, I wasn’t very interested in Walmart+ when the option was first launched. However, after becoming a member (via the Amex Platinum’s monthly credit), I’ve come to see the benefits of it first-hand. First, the home delivery option is incredibly convenient, and I personally love the Scan & Go feature when I shop in-store. Moreover, while Paramount+ may not be my most-used streaming service, I do enjoy having a subscription included.

With all of that in mind, I do think that $49 is a good price if you want to try the service for a year. Then, you can decide for yourself if it’s worth renewing at the full price after that. Just remember that, if you do want to take advantage of this Walmart+ deal, you’ll need to do so before July 15th.
