Target Adds Markup-Free Shipt Benefit for Circle 360 Members
Target is rolling out a new benefit for members of its Circle 360 subscription that could save them money beyond the retailer itself.
About the Shipt No Markups Delivery Benefit for Target Circle 360:
This week, Target revealed its Target Circle 360 members could now take advantage of same-day delivery via Shipt — but without price markups. While Target itself hasn’t utilized the practice of increasing prices for Shipt deliveries versus what customers would pay in store, this has been commonplace for other retailers. In turn, members can now enjoy no-markup deliveries from the likes of CVS, Lowe’s, Hy-Vee, Giant Eagle, and others featured on Shipt.
Introduced in April 2024, Target Circle 360 is the retailer’s answer to the likes of Amazon Prime or Walmart+. Currently, membership comes at a cost of $99 per year or $10.99 per month. For that fee, in addition to perks included with the free Target Circle membership, such as a 5% off birthday gift and partner perks, Circle 360 entitles subscribers to free 2-day shipping, same-day delivery on orders over $35, no-rush returns, and more. Plus, along with the addition of this updated Shipt perk, Target Circle 360 customers will now enjoy freebies on the first of each month. According to Target estimates, Circle 360 members save more than $300 per year on average in addition to saving seven hours a month.
To mark the launch of this new benefit, new Circle 360 members can save up to $20 on Shipt orders of $75 or more. However, this offer is not valid for orders from Target. Additionally, this $20 discount will expire 14 days after the new Circle 360 account is activated.
What They’re Saying:
Announcing the new benefit, Target’s EVP and chief guest experience officer Cara Sylvester stated, “From the start, Target Circle 360 has been about building strong relationships with our guests and growing with them to deliver more value and ease… We’ve built a true digital shopping center experience — making your Saturday errand run easier, faster, and more affordable.”
Meanwhile, Shipt CEO Kamau Witherspoon said, “The Shipt marketplace, our digital shopping center, gives members access to same-day delivery from more than 100 beloved national and regional retailers. In a time when consumers are looking to save both time and money, Target and Shipt are shaping a one-of-a-kind, dynamic retail ecosystem that lifts up our retail partners while helping members save.”
My Thoughts:
Somehow, Target’s paid membership service had alluded me until this news. Looking at the benefits now, while there’s certainly some overlap with similar services, this expansion of the Shipt perk is interesting. That said, whether or not this proves valuable to consumers will heavily depend on their location and how much they shop at participating retailers.
With that, while I don’t see a need for a Target Circle 360 membership for myself, it may be worth a closer look for busy shoppers looking to save time without spending a fortune in fees.
