Sun Country Airlines Re-Launches Credit Card with Synchrony

Sun Country Airlines has unveiled its updated rewards credit card with a new issuer.

About the Sun Country Visa Signature Card:

The low-cost carrier Sun Country has relaunched its co-branded credit card, now issued by Synchrony.

With the card, customers can earn up to 5x Sun Country rewards points per dollar spent on Sun Country purchases. This includes 3x from using their card and 2x from the flight itself. Meanwhile, the card also earns on everyday spending categories. These include 2x points at gas stations, 2x points on grocery store purchases, and 1x on all other purchases. Additionally, customers can earn a 10,000-point anniversary bonus when they spend $10,000 per year or more and renew the card.

Beyond rewards, the Sun Country card features extra benefits for flyers. First, cardholders can receive 50% off their first checked bag. This perk applies to the primary cardholder as well as their travel companion on the same itinerary. Customers can also save 50% on Best and Standard seat selection for themselves and companions on the same itinerary when booking pre-flight via the Sun Country site or app. As for on-board benefits, flyers can enjoy a free premium drink, as well as 25% off in-flight food and beverages when using the card.

Currently, the Sun Country Visa Signature card carries an $89 annual fee.

The re-launched Sun Country card also offers a welcome bonus. Right now, new cardholders can earn 25,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 on the card within their first 90 days from account opening.

Note that this updated card replaces the previous Sun Country Visa card, issued by First National Bank of Omaha. Those with the prior card will automatically be converted to the Synchrony card.

What They’re Saying:

Discussing the updated card, Sun Country SVP and Chief Marketing Officer Colton Snow said, “Sun Country offers our customers great value with low fares, more than 90 nonstop destinations, and a comfortable onboard experience. Our partnership with Synchrony allows us to enhance our value by offering a credit card for both air travel-related purchases and everyday spending.”

Snow added, “Together, we are focused on creating more rewarding travel experiences, fostering customer loyalty, and providing flexible financial solutions that meet the evolving needs of today’s travelers.”

My Thoughts:

Looking at the previous Sun Country card, there doesn’t seem to be too many differences — although the 25% discount on in-flight refreshments appears to be new. What has changed is that the annual fee is now $89 versus $69. While that’s disappointing, perks such as 50% off checked bags and seat selection could easily cover that cost if you fly Sun Country at least a couple of times per year (or even faster if you have multiple travel companions who can also take advantage of the discount).

2025 SoFi Checking and Savings Review

Ever since I started taking an interest in the FinTech sector, one company whose name I’ve seen pop up over and over again is SoFi. That was later sent into overdrive as the company has not only become a household name thanks to its stadium naming rights deal but also because of the company’s continued product expansions. The most interesting development in my mind is SoFi’s acquisition of Golden Pacific...
