Sheetz, FNBO Announce Updated Co-Branded Credit Card

A popular gas station and convience store chain has announced an update to its co-branded credit card.

About the updated card:

Sheetz and credit card issuer FNBO has revealed a refresh for the Sheetz Visa Card. First, Sheetz Visa cardholders will now instantly save 7¢ per gallon with their card. When combined with the 3¢ off per gallon that Sheetz Rewardz members earn, customers can save up to 10¢ per gallon.

As for other rewards, the Sheetz Visa earns 5% cashback on Sheetz purchases made in-store. All other qualifying purchases made with the card earn 1% back. However, non-Sheetz service stations and fuel purchases are excluded from this category.

To mark the launch of the revamped card, new Sheetz Visa cardholders will be able to save up to 30¢ per gallon on Sheetz gas purchases for a limited time. For their first 30 days from account opening, new cardholders will earn 20¢ per gallon back as a statement credit. Combined with the 7¢ per gallon savings with the card and 3¢ per gallon savings with Sheetz Rewardz, this effectively allows cardholders to enjoy 30¢ off per gallon for their inaugural 30 days.

Prior to this refresh, the Sheetz Visa offered 5¢ per gallon off plus 5% back on in-store Sheetz purchases and 1% back on everything else (excluding non-Sheetz service station and fuel purchases).

What they’re saying:

Announcing the updates, FNBO SVP of Partnerships Scott Smith said, “FNBO is thrilled to offer customers the newly upgraded Sheetz Visa credit card, marking a new exciting chapter to our 14 years of robust, fruitful partnership with Sheetz.” Smith added, “Originally introduced in 2010, the card now provides an enhanced experience for all cardholders, both new and existing, reflecting our shared commitment to customer satisfaction through convenient and seamless solutions.”

Meanwhile, Sheetz’s Director of Brand Marketing Nicole Auman said, “We are delighted to introduce the enhanced features of our latest Sheetz Visa credit card offering. At our core, we prioritize delivering exceptional value and benefits to our customers. The updates to this card are designed to empower our customers to save more and earn significant rewards effortlessly.”

My thoughts:

From what I can tell, the only real change to the Sheetz Visa card’s feature is that it now earns 7¢ off per gallon versus the previous 5¢. While that’s good news for existing cardholders, it’s still not enough to make the card attractive to most people. Unless you’re eating a lot of Sheetz made-to-order food items (hey, no judgment here), I have to imagine that you’d be better off using a different rewards credit card for gas and just signing up for Sheetz Rewardz.

The most interesting development in my mind is SoFi’s acquisition of Golden Pacific...
