First Bank & Trust Launches Shop Your Way 5321 Visa Card
A new Shop Your Way-branded rewards credit card is now available.
About the Shop Your Way 5321 Visa:
Applications are now open for the Shop Your Way 5321 Visa card issued by First Bank & Trust. As the name implies, the card earns Shop Your Way points in a variety of categories, ranging from 1% to 5% back. The card does not carry any annual fee.
First, cardholders can earn 5% back in Shop Your Way points on gas and EV charging purchases. Additionally, “everyday transportation” purchases, including public transit, taxis, rideshare, car washes, parking, and tolls earn 5% back in points. Elsewhere, the card earns 3% on dining, 3% on groceries, and 3% on travel. Rounding out the rewards line-up, customers can earn 2% back on purchases from merchants in the Shop Your Way network and 1% back in points on all other purchases. These points can be redeemed for a variety of gift cards or for statement credits.
At this time, the 5321 card does not have a publicly stated welcome bonus. However, exclusive targeted offers may be available.
The Shop Your Way 5321 card replaces the former Shop Your Way Mastercard, which was issued by Citibank. As of November 3rd, purchases made on the previous card will no longer earn points. Existing cardholders were converted to the Citi ThankYou Card and will need to apply for the new Shop Your Way 5321 card separately.
My Thoughts:
Looking into it, the most interesting part of this card is the variety of welcome bonus offers I’ve seen. One report shows that some customers were offered 500,000 bonus points after spending $5,000 in 90 days. Meanwhile, my offer was 50,000 bonus points for spending $1,000 in 90 days plus 1.5x points during that time (so 7.5% on gas, EV charging, and transit; 4.5% on dining, groceries, and travel; 3% on purchases from Shop Your Way merchants; and 1.5% on everything else). I’ve also seen some people say they were offered 0% APR for 12 months and double points for 90 days. Talk about variation!
Beyond the intro period, while the rewards categories and rates here sound great, I honestly don’t know enough about Shop Your Way to say for sure. It’s also a bit annoying that those with the old card need to apply for a new one since First Bank & Trust apparently didn’t purchase the backbook from Citi. Anyway, if you are a fan of Shop Your Way and are offered a good welcome bonus, then it may be worth applying for this card. Otherwise, you’ll probably need to do a bit more diving in before deciding if this one is right for you.
