Lessons From a First-Time Home Buyer: Announcing My New (and Free) Homebuyer’s Guide

For the past 18 months, I’ve been writing about my experience 1) buying a home and then 2) discovering everything that being a homeowner entails. Along the way, I’ve covered some topics that I’d never heard anyone else really talk about and have developed a few tips that I think others could learn from.

So You Are Thinking About Buying Your First Home... book cover

That’s why I’ve now compiled the highlights of my experience into a new guide So, You Are Thinking About Buying Your First Home…: A Guided Journey From a First Time Home Buyer. This new Ebook is available now — and, best of all, it’s completely free. Heck, I won’t even make you enter an email address to get it!

In this guide, I’ll share insights from every step of the homebuying/owning journey. This starts with tips on beginning the search for your new house and how you can progress your pursuit as you get more serious about owning. On that note, I’ll also provide tips about the types of professionals I’d recommend any first-time buyer work with to make things as simple as possible.

Of course, we’ll also talk about mortgages, homeowners insurance, property taxes and how all of these (plus potential other fees like homeowners association dues) make up your monthly payment. After all, failing to understand the true monthly cost of home ownership could cause you to go over budget!

Ever wonder about the process of making an offer on a house — or what closing actually involves? Well, we’ll cover that too. And I’ll give you a heads up about some of the spam and scams you may have to navigate once news of your home purchase becomes public information.

Lastly, in this guide, I share what I’ve learned in my first year as a homeowner. For example, did you know that the company you get your mortgage from initially might turn around and sell it? Neither did I! Also, as you inevitably need to make repairs and upgrades to your house, there are some aspects of financing these purchases that you’ll want to know about and watch out for.

I’m really excited about this guide because buying our first house was such a whirlwind and an eye-opening adventure. In turn, I want to give others thinking about making the leap a potential preview of the process. That said, it’s worth remembering that every homebuying experience is a bit different, so you’ll surely have your own stories to tell afterward.

Once again, this Ebook So, You Are Thinking About Buying Your First Home…: A Guided Journey From a First Time Home Buyer is available now FOR FREE. To claim yours, just head to our Homebuyer’s Guide landing page and click the download button.

Hopefully this guide can help give you a better idea about what to expect while buying a home. And, of course, I’ll be back in two weeks to share even more from my first-time home buyer story.

2025 SoFi Checking and Savings Review

Ever since I started taking an interest in the FinTech sector, one company whose name I’ve seen pop up over and over again is SoFi. That was later sent into overdrive as the company has not only become a household name thanks to its stadium naming rights deal but also because of the company’s continued product expansions. The most interesting development in my mind is SoFi’s acquisition of Golden Pacific...
