Amex Announces Salt Lake City Centurion Lounge Location

American Express has announced another expansion of its Centurion Lounge network, with a planned lounge for a popular U.S. airport.

About the SLC Centurion Lounge location

A new Centurion Lounge is headed to Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC). The lounge will open in the new Concourse B as part of Phase 4 of The New SLC Airport Redevelopment program. Currently, the location is expected to open sometime in 2025.

The upcoming Centurion at SLC will be nearly 16,000 square feet. By comparison, the largest Centurion Lounge location (in Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport) is nearly 26,000 square feet.

In terms of features and amenities, the location will include an outdoor terrace with views not only of the airfield but also of the Wasatch Mountains. Inside, in addition to a selection of food items, the SLC location will feature a “Blue Roast by American Express” Coffee Bar. Blue Roast will include seasonal specialty drinks from local rosters as well as a menu of traditional coffee drinks. Speaking of drink, the lounge will also have a full bar complete with a bespoke cocktail menu. Lastly, the location will include local design elements and artwork along with luxury amenities for travelers.

Centurion Lounge access is included for Platinum Card by American Express members. Primary cardholders enjoy complimentary access while guest passes can be purchased for $50 per visit. Alternatively, those who spend at least $75,000 per calendar year on their Platinum card can unlock complimentary access privileges for up to two guests.

What they’re saying:

Announcing the newest Centurion location, Amex Travel president Audrey Hendley stated, “American Express has strong roots in the Salt Lake City community. It’s home to many of our colleagues and Card Members and a popular vacation destination for US and global Card Members. The new Centurion Lounge will give eligible Card Members a taste of what this beautiful destination has to offer and feature premium amenities for all types of travelers.”

Additionally, SLC International Airport executive director Bill Wyatt said of the project, “We are thrilled to welcome the Centurion Lounge to The New SLC International Airport. Guests will enjoy what promises to be an inviting atmosphere to relax and refresh during their journey. We’re excited to work with American Express to bring this never before seen offering at SLC to life.”

My thoughts:

First, the airline nerd in me feels compelled to point out that SLC is another Delta hub. That’s notable because American Express has continued to open Centurion Lounge locations in airports where SkyClubs already exist — including recently opening the world’s largest Centurion in ATL and announcing a new location coming to HND. This is surely no accident as both Centurion and SkyClub lounges have been working to curb overcrowding. So, by doubling up and giving cardholders more options in these popular airports, perhaps they can finally offer sufficient capacity to customers.

Funny enough, though, I found out that the current SkyClub at SLC is in Concourse A while the Centurion will be in Concourse B… but, it turns out that Delta is planning a new SkyClub location in Concourse B for next year as well.

Nerdery aside, as a Platinum cardmember, I’m always excited about having new lounges to visit. So, hopefully I’ll have the chance to check out this new SLC location sometime after it debuts in 2025.
