American Express Opens Latest Centurion Lounge in Amsterdam

American Express members now have another airport lounge option when traveling abroad.

About the New American Express Centurion Lounge at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol:

Another Centurion Lounge location has arrived, this time opening at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS). Opening today, the location is the 33rd in the Centurion Lounge Network. The new lounge is located between Concourse E and Concourse F. Currently, it’s scheduled to operate from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily.

According to Amex, the AMS location takes inspiration from Dutch heritage, while offering contemporary space. For example, the palette is meant to evoke Amsterdam’s landscapes while pieces from Dutch artists provide a more modern interpretation of the country’s nature. Meanwhile, the lounge will offer food and beverages that feature both Dutch and regional European flavors. Amex will also acknowledge Amsterdam’s coffee culture with the Blue Roast Coffee Bar, which will serve locally sourced coffees.

Access to Centurion Lounge locations is available to American Express Platinum and Centurion Cardholders as well as Delta SkyMiles Reserve card customers who are flying Delta. Other upcoming lounge locations include Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS). Additionally, Amex plans to open one of its new Sidecar by The Centurion Lounge concepts in Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT).

What They’re Saying:

Commenting on the latest Amex Centurion Lounge location, American Express Travel president Audrey Hendley said, “Schiphol is a major travel hub for our Card Members in the Netherlands and around the world. That made Schiphol a natural place to bring the Centurion Lounge experience.” Hendley continued, “As the first global credit card company to operate a lounge at AMS, we look forward to welcoming Card Members in a premium space designed to reflect the character of Amsterdam.”

My Thoughts:

I’ll admit that, when I saw this news, I thought it fit into the Amex Centurion lounge trend of opening in Delta hubs. Well, I was surprised to see that, while AMS is a big location for Delta, there’s not actually a Sky Club there (instead, SkyTeam partner KLM operates lounges there). So, on a technicality, I guess that’s not quite the case here.

Anyway, at 6,000 square feet, this new AMS Centurion Lounge location is definitely on the small side. In fact, that’s about one-third the size of the location that opened in Salt Lake City last year. Nevertheless, I’m sure this will be a welcome addition for cardholders traveling Europe.
