Amex Celebrates Gold Card’s 60th Anniversary with New Perks

American Express’ iconic Gold Card is celebrating its 60th anniversary by bringing new perks and offers to the card.

About the Amex Gold Card’s New Permanent and Limited-Time Benefits:

Current and prospective Amex Gold Card members have reason to rejoice as a minor refresh of the product (timed to its 60th anniversary) is bringing in some benefits.

First up, the card’s Dining Credit is getting some new options. Now, the list includes Buffalo Wild Wings and Wonder. However, these replace Goldbelly and Wine.com, which will no longer be available after July 1st, 2026. Continuing options for this up to $10 monthly credit include Grubhub (including Seamless), Five Guys, and The Cheesecake Factory.

Next, in an update to the card’s reward, members can now earn 5x points on prepaid hotel bookings made via Amex Travel. Previously, this category earned just 2x. The Gold Card continues to earn 4x on dining worldwide (up to $50,000 in purchases per calendar year), 4x at U.S. supermarkets (up to $25,000 in purchases per calendar year), and 3x on flights booked directly with airlines or via Amex Travel.

Another new perk comes thanks to a partnership with Hertz. Now, Gold Cardmembers can enjoy complimentary Five Stars Status. With this status, customers can add another driver at no additional cost, receive vehicle upgrades when available, and more.

Beyond these permanent additions, the Gold Card also revealed some limited-time offers. First, cardmembers can currently claim a free year (up to $96) of Uber One when they use their card to pay for an annual membership. This offer is available through October 30th, 2026. Elsewhere, members can take advantage of a 20% transfer bonus to Hilton, which will be available through May 30th, 2026. Note that this bonus is also currently available for other Amex cards, including the Platinum Card. Lastly, Amex says that special curated Amex Offers celebrating the 60th anniversary are now available.

The American Express Gold Card carries an annual fee of $325, which remains the same despite these added benefits. Currently, new cardholders can earn as high as 100,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $8,000 in purchases on the card within their first six months.

What They’re Saying:

Commenting on these updates and the milestone anniversary of the Gold Card, Amex’s EVP of U.S. Consumer Products Lisa Kalhans remarked, “For 60 years, the Gold Card has evolved alongside how our Card Members actually live… These updates reflect how we’re continuing to build on that foundation, delivering more of what our Card Members value most and reinforcing why Gold remains one of our most well-rounded Cards.”

My Thoughts:

Speaking as someone who previously had the American Express Gold Card but elected to give it up after the last refresh, I think these added perks are nice… but not exactly game-changing. For one, I had to look up what Wonder was and couldn’t tell you the last time I visited a Buffalo Wild Wings (although, takeout might be a pretty good use of this $10 credit). I also don’t rent cars enough to care about Hertz status. However, matching the Platinum Card’s 5x on prepaid Amex Travel hotel bookings is a pretty sweet deal.

As I said, if you were on the fence about the Gold Card, this might sway you a bit, but it seems unlikely to truly change the math for many. Still, it may be worth checking your welcome bonus offer to see if you can score that top 100,000 point deal.
