Paze: The Latest FinTech to Become an NBA Jersey Patch Partner
The Atlanta Hawks have a new jersey patch sponsor in the form of the FinTech checkout solution Paze.
About the Paze Jersey Patch Sponsorship:
This week, Paze announced that it had entered into a multi-year partnership with the National Basketball League’s Atlanta Hawks. When the NBA season tips off later this month, Hawks players will be sporting Paze logo patches on their jerseys. Additionally, Paze will serve as the Official Online Checkout Partner and Digital Wallet of the team as well as their home, State Farm Arena.
The brand will also be a presenting sponsor of the Hawks’ matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers on November 8th. Paze says that it will be “woven into the game experience” that night, while special in-arena activations will also be available to Hawks fans.
Paze is an online checkout solution from Zelle operators Early Warning Services. Like Zelle, Paze partners with banks and credit unions to bring the service to its customers. Among the online retailers that accept Paze payments are Fanatics, Jared Jewelers, Omaha Steaks, United Airlines, and many others.
With this Hawks partnership, Paze becomes the latest in a string of FinTechs that have been NBA jersey patch sponsors. For example, neobank Chime renewed its partnership with the Dallas Mavericks last year. Other current examples include Ibotta (Denver Nuggets), Rakuten (Golden State Warriors), Sezzle (Minnesota Timberwolves), and PayPal (Phoenix Suns). Additionally, Robinhood sponsors the Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat, and Washington Wizards.
What They’re Saying:
Commenting on the sponsorship, the President of Business Enterprise and Chief Commercial Officer for the Atlanta Hawks and State Farm Arena Andrew Saltzman said, “Paze checkout has quickly become an emerging solution in the financial technology industry. Its core values are rooted in innovation and providing a first-class checkout experience offering added security for all users.”
He added, “With those shared values, we are proud to have the Paze branding woven into the fabric of the Atlanta Hawks uniforms and throughout our community.”
My Thoughts:
It would seem as though this sponsorship is already helping to raise awareness for Paze, as I personally hadn’t heard of it until now! That’s surprising to me given the oddly passionate fanbase that its sister brand Zelle enjoys. Then again, it looks as though Paze has only been operating for about a year, so I’ll give myself a pass.
Anyway, it’s been interesting to see the roster of FinTechs represented in the NBA growing in recent years. Hopefully, that means they’re seeing positive results from this coveted advertising medium.
