JetBlue Offering Perks for Sustainable Aviation Fuel Contributions
While JetBlue continues its efforts to become greener, it’s offering flyers a chance to earn potential status while helping the airline meet its goal.
About SAF and JetBlue’s contribution incentive:
JetBlue has announced a special promotion where customers can earn Tiles toward Mosaic status when contributing to the airline’s efforts to lower carbon emissions. Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is an alternative jet fuel that, when compared to fossil-based fuels, can reduce lifecycle emissions by approximately 80%. While JetBlue utilizes SAF producers at SFO, LAX, and, soon, JFK, the company is hoping to grow the adoption of this alternative.
To do so, airline is asking customers to contribute funds using the platform Chooose. JetBlue says that 89.69% of contributions collection will be allocated toward buying SAF products (with the other 10.31% going to Chooose as a service and technology fee). In exchange for these contributions, flyers can collect Tiles toward reaching new or higher Mosaic status.
For every $100 contributed to SAF using JetBlue’s Chooose portal, TrueBlue and Mosaic customers will earn 1 Tile. However, this promotion is capped at a total of 10 Tiles earned ($1,000 spent). Contributions must be made by December 31st, 2024 to qualify and earned Tiles will be applied by the end of January 2025. In turn, those who manage to achieve status as a result of the added Tiles will retain their status until the end of 2025.

Announcing this offer and JetBlue’s SAF endeavors, JetBlue’s Managing Director of Sustainability Sara Bogdan said, “As we enter our sixth year of flying with SAF, we are now making it even easier (and rewarding) for customers to join us in our efforts.”
Bogdan continued, “Whether you’re celebrating a great year of travel, or planning ahead for next year, we’re inviting you to partner with us to help address the carbon emissions caused by flying through contributions to sustainable aviation fuel.”
My thoughts:
First, the very concept of SAF is fascinating and I’m surprised it’s not something I’d heard about previously. Even more interesting is this promotion, which is unlike anything I can remember seeing before. While charity fundraising campaigns as well as Kickstarters for new products are commonplace, I’ve never encountered an airline asking customers to help them buy better fuel. Nevertheless, I suppose it could be a win-win for JetBlue flyers.
Of course, given the 10-Tile limit for this offer means that you’ll already need to have a decent number of Tiles earned in order to reach even the lowest Mosiac status. After all, Mosaic 1 required 50 Tiles while Mosaic 2 isn’t reached until 100 Tiles are collected. But, whether you’re nearing the next level of status or just want to assist JetBlue’s SAF efforts, this could be your chance.
