PNC Introduces New Cash Unlimited Visa Card with 2% Back

PNC Bank has revealed its latest rewards credit card.

About the card:

This week, PNC unveiled the PNC Cash Unlimited Visa Signature credit card. With the new offering, cardholders can earn unlimited 2% cashback on all purchases. Accrued cashback can then be redeemed for direct deposits into PNC accounts, statement credits, gift cards, and more. The card also carries no annual fee and will not charge any foreign transaction fees.

While the PNC Cash Unlimited card does not currently feature a welcome bonus, the bank is offering a special introductory APR. For the first 12 billing cycles following account opening, cardholders can enjoy 0% APR on purchases. Additionally, cardholders can take advantage of the same 0% APR for the first 12 billing cycles on balance transfers completed within the first 90 days.

Of note, applicants must qualify for a credit limit of at least $5,000 in order to be approved for the card.

The new PNC Cash Unlimited Visa Signature is currently available to current PNC customers in-branch or online. Those without a current PNC account will need to apply in person at a PNC branch.

What they’re saying:

Announcing the new card, PNC Bank’s Head of Credit Cards Nate Bacon said, “The PNC Cash Unlimited Visa Signature credit card is built around the principle of offering competitive, uncomplicated value to our clients. With this credit card, we are simplifying our rewards experience and allowing our cardholders to earn a 2% cash back on all eligible purchases without worrying about spending categories or caps.”

Additionally, the bank’s Head of Consumer Lending Lakhbir Lamba noted, “The launch of the PNC Cash Unlimited Visa Signature credit card represents a pivotal moment for PNC as we continue to evolve our consumer lending product offerings and solutions to align with what our clients truly value.”

Other 2% cards:

PNC’s new card joins a growing list of rewards credit cards that offer a flat 2% back. This includes the Citi Double Cash card as well as the Wells Fargo Active Cash card among others. Meanwhile, Robinhood is gearing up to launch its 3% back flat rate card — although that card will require customers to have a Robinhood Gold subscription.

My thoughts:

Even as a PNC customer, I have to say that the Cash Unlimited Visa is fairly uninteresting at best. While earning 2% back on all purchases is a solid structure, it’s also one done by numerous others at this point. Plus, while cards such as the Wells Fargo Active Cash card include a welcome bonus, PNC’s new card does not. That said, I suppose those seeking a 0% APR promo for a large purchase might view those financing savings as a bonus — but, if you do choose to take that path, make sure to pay off your purchases before the promo ends.
