FinTech B Generous Signs Equity Deal with NFL’s Damar Hamlin

A FinTech aiming to make donating to charity more accessible has announced a partnership with an NFL star.

About the deal and B Generous:

This week, B Generous announced a collaborative partnership with football player Damar Hamlin. As part of the deal, Hamlin will receive equity in the startup while also working with the firm’s team to achieve their common goals.

Launched nearly one year ago, B Generous is a platform that introduces what it calls “Donate Now, Pay Later.” Similar to popular “buy now, pay later” services, this option allows non-profits to receive funding right away while allowing donators to cover their donation over time with no interest or fees. Currently, B Generous is being offered by such non-profits as United Way, PETA, The Humane Society, and more.

About Damar Hamlin:

NFL player Damar Hamlin is a defensive back for the Buffalo Bills. Last season, during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest on the field and was taken to a local hospital. Following the incident, as Hamlin recovered, a spotlight was put on his philanthropic efforts, with a previous toy drive effort he had organized going viral and collecting more than $9 million. Since then, Hamlin has continued to give back through his Chasing M’s Foundation.

What they’re saying:

Announcing the partnership with Hamlin, B Generous CEO Dominic Kalms said, “Damar’s unwavering dedication to making a difference in his community serves as a personal inspiration to not only myself, but to the entire B Generous team. With this announcement, we’re honored to welcome him to the B Generous family and kick off a partnership that is founded on a shared mission to empower and uplift the social sector, to create a better world for everyone.”

Meanwhile, Hamlin said of the partnership, “I am really excited to collaborate with B Generous and support the invaluable work of non-profit organizations by bringing them innovative technology such as Donate Now, Pay Later. Together, we will empower individuals to contribute to causes they are passionate about and make a meaningful impact in communities across the globe.”

My thoughts:

There are a number of reasons why this partnership makes a lot of sense. For B Generous, working with a star like Hamlin — and one that’s already known for their charitable efforts — will only serve to bring positive attention to the platform. As for Hamlin, the collaboration fits perfectly within his entrepreneurial philanthropy he’s strived for. Together, the two seemed destined to make “Donate Now, Pay Later” a more popular option in the years ahead.
