After initially teasing a co-branded credit card last fall, today, Chase and DoorDash officially launched the new product. Customers can now apply for the DoorDash Rewards Mastercard to earn cashback on their delivery orders and beyond.

Starting with the rewards, the new DoorDash credit card earns 4% cashback on DoorDash and Caviar orders. Additionally, other dining purchases will earn 3% back. Grocery store purchases (online or in-store) will earn 2% back while all other purchases earn 1%. As noted, these rewards do come in the form of cashback, which can not only be used for DoorDash orders but can also be redeemed for statement credits, direct deposits to customers’ bank accounts, or used to purchase select gift cards.

In terms of other benefits, new cardholders can currently earn a free year of DashPass when they are approved for the card. With DashPass (which normally comes at a cost of $96 a year), customers can enjoy $0 delivery fees, lower service fees, 5% back on pick-up orders, and more. Cardholders who spend at least $10,000 a year on their DoorDash Rewards Mastercard per year can continue their complimentary DashPass each cardholder anniversary year. However, those who fail to meet this threshold and don’t cancel DashPass will see their membership automatically renew at full price.

Elsewhere, the card also currently includes two exclusive benefits for customers. Through August 31st, cardholders can earn 10% off on their first convenience, grocery, alcohol or DashMart order of $35 or more each month (up to $15 per order). Additionally, customers can get $25 off their first two Nationwide Shipping orders of $100 or more.

With the launch of DoorDash Rewards Mastercard, Chase and DoorDash are also offering a welcome bonus. Now, new cardholders can earn $100 cashback when they spend at least $500 in purchases on the card in their first three months from account opening. Also of note, the DoorDash Rewards Mastercard carries no annual fee.

This new DoorDash card debut follows the introduction of a different delivery service co-branded card. In July 2022, Chase launched the Instacart Mastercard in partnership with the grocery delivery platform. That card earns customers 5% back on Instacart purchases and 5% back on travel purchases made via Chase Travel Center as well as 2% back at restaurants, gas stations, and on select streaming service purchases. All other purchases earn 1% back. Like with the DoorDash card, the Instacart Mastercard earns cashback, allowing cardholders to redeem their rewards in a variety of ways.

For those who use DoorDash frequently, the new DoorDash Rewards Mastercard may make sense thanks to the 4% back category and the complimentary DashPass (at least for the first year). However, outside of that category, most consumers would likely be served by a more generic cashback card. For example, the no-annual-fee Capital One SavorOne also earns 3% back on dining but improves on the DoorDash card’s 2% back on groceries by offering 3% in the same category. Plus, SavorOne earns 3% on select streaming services. Nevertheless, considering that the card earns real cashback and has reward categories outside of those related to DashDoor itself, the DoorDash Rewards Mastercard is arguably a stronger product than some may have anticipated. So, while it may not be right for everyone, it may be a good pick for food delivery fans.
