Chase Aeroplan Card Unveils New 100K-Point Offer

With the summer travel season just around the corner, Chase and Air Canada have rolled out a new offer for their cobranded Aeroplan card. What’s more, the card has added a new feature that gives cardholders another point redemption path.

As we’ve seen from other issuers in recent years, the latest Chase Aeroplan welcome bonus is a tiered offer. First, new cardholders who spend at least $4,000 on their card within their first three months will earn a 60,000-point bonus. Then, if they spend at least $20,000 on the card within their first 12 months, they’ll earn an additional 40,000 points. This bumps the total possible bonus amount up to a whopping 100,000 points.

While this bonus opportunity is the star at the moment, the Chase Aeroplan card does have a lot more to offer. In terms of rewards, the card earns 3x points on grocery store purchases, 3x on dining (including takeout and eligible delivery services), 3x on purchases made directly with Air Canada, and 1x on all other purchases. Additionally, cardholders can earn 500 bonus points for every $2,000 they spend on the card in a calendar month.

Beyond the rewards, the Aeroplan card also includes some other benefits for flyers. This includes a first free checked bag perk for cardholders and up to eight travel companions. Plus, new card members automatically receive Aeroplan 25K Status not only for the remainder of the current calendar year but also the following calendar year. Lastly, the card includes a credit of up to $100 toward Global Entry, TSA Precheck, or NEXUS application fees charged to the card (available once every four years). Note that the Chase Aeroplan card does carry a $95 annual fee, which is not waived for the first year.

This new offer for the Chase Aeroplan Mastercard coincides with the launch of the Chase Pay Yourself Back program’s arrival on the card. Recently, the feature — which was originally teased upon the card’s debut — was introduced, allowing cardholders to redeem their Aeroplan point for any travel purchases made with the card, including hotels, car rentals, ride-shares, flights, and more. Points redeemed with this option will be valued at 1.25¢ each and, at this time, it appears as though the offer stands for any Aeroplan points, not just those earned using the card itself. Chase notes that there is no limit to the number of points you can redeem through December 31st, 2023. Incidentally, this update comes as the bank has modified the Pay Yourself Back program on its Sapphire cards, lowering the redemption rate for certain categories.

Overall, if you’ve been holding out, now could be a great time to apply for the Chase Aeroplan card. Even if you’re not a frequent Air Canada flier, the ability to redeem Aeroplan points for flights on partner airlines or use the Chase Pay Yourself Back program makes this 100,000-point deal even better. In fact, with the Pay Yourself Back option, the points would be worth $1,250 in travel purchases. With an annual fee of just $95, new Chase Aeroplan cardholders willing to spend the required $20,000 on the card in their first year (in order to get the full bonus) could definitely come out ahead.
