Cardless Launches Boston Celtics Credit Card
The FinTech Cardless has just revealed its latest product. This time around, the company has partnered with the famed Boston Celtics to create the aptly named Boston Celtics Credit Card.
In terms of rewards, fans can earn 7x points on Celtics tickets as well as on rideshare and streaming service purchases. Additionally, the card offers 4x points on dining, 2x points at grocery stores and drug stores, and 1x points on all other purchases. These earned points can then be redeemed for statement credits at a rate of 1¢ per point or can be worth 1.25¢ each when redeemed for Celtics gift cards.
Cardholders can also enjoy is a 10% discount on purchases at the online Celtics shop. Additionally, points can be redeemed for specialty items such as Legend-signed jerseys. Meanwhile, the Celtics credit card carries no annual fee and doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees.
Currently, there’s also a lucrative welcome bonus for new Celtics card customers. Cardholders can earn 30,000 bonus points after spending $2,500 in purchases on the card within their first three months. Based on the redemption rates, this bonus is worth $300 in statement credits or $375 in Celtics gift cards. Also notable is that cardholders can earn 10,000 points for referring friends to the card (who then get approved).
The Celtics card follows several other Cardless products celebrating various sports teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Marlins, and Machester United Football Club. However, when Cardless recently announced its $40 million Series B, it expressed plans to expand beyond the sports market. As Cardless co-founder and president Michael Spelfogel told TechCrunch, “We’re committed to supporting the super users of today’s influential brands across a variety of verticals.”
Overall, the Boston Celtics Credit Card is another intriguing product from Cardless. Not only is the card sure to be appealing to fans of the basketball team but could also prove to be a good option for others as well. In particular, the 7x rideshare and streaming services perks (which amount to 7% back or 8.75% back if redeemed for a Celtics gift card) put the card in a league of its own. On top of that, the 4x on dining is a reward multiplier typically reserved for cards with annual fees, such as the American Express Gold Card or Capital One Savor. Of course, NBA fans may need to choose whether these rewards are worth potentially carrying a rival team’s logo in their wallet. That issue aside, the Boston Celtics Credit Card could be a good pick as Cardless continues to expand its line-up.
