Cardless Announces Plans to Launch LATAM Airlines Credit Card
Cardless is at it again — and this time, it’s moving beyond sports team co-branded cards. Recently, the FinTech announced plans to introduce a credit card with LATAM Airlines for the United States market. The Chilean airline currently offers non-stop service from Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and Orlando to destinations in South America. Additionally, LATAM has codeshare partners such as Delta and Alaska in the U.S., giving customers greater flexibility with the earned miles.
Details on what the LATAM Airlines Credit Card will offer have yet to be announced but are expected to be revealed later this year. In the meantime, Cardless has opened a waitlist for the product so that customers can be among the first to know when the card debuts.
The upcoming LATAM Airlines card will be Cardless’s first venture outside of the world of sports — a development that the company’s co-founder and president Michael Spelfogel previously promised. Currently, the startup offers co-branded cards from the Boston Celtics, Miami Marlins, Manchester United, and others. Cardless’s most recent addition comes from Liverpool FC. The newly-launched product offers 10x points on LFC official store purchases, 5x points on rideshare and streaming services, and 3x points at bars, restaurants, and select food delivery services among other rewards and perks. Plus, the new Liverpool FC Card currently boasts a 30,000 points bonus after new cardholders spend at least $2,000 in their three months.
Commenting on the upcoming card, Spelfogel said in a statement, “We are beyond thrilled to be joining forces with LATAM in our first foray into travel rewards credit card. Moving beyond entertainment and leisure, travel rewards are an absolute necessity in the 21st century – a fact that the isolation of the past two years has only intensified.” He continued, “We can’t wait to help LATAM reward their customers with tangible benefits that bring people across the world back together.”
Meanwhile, LATAM Airlines Group’s VP of Sales for North America, Caribbean, Mexico, and Asia Paola Peñarete said, “We strive to continuously improve our customer experience and this new partnership seeks to offer more options for accumulating miles through a simpler and more intuitive digital experience. Fintech companies are pioneers in adaptability and flexibility with the end-user in mind, and the LATAM Airlines Credit Card program exemplifies this.”
Given Cardless’s existing products, the upcoming LATAM Airlines Credit Card could prove to be an interesting option for travelers, even those who don’t regularly fly the airline. With LATAM’s Delta and Alaska partnership, it stands to reason that the new card could prove useful to flyers on these airlines as well. That said, we’ll need to wait for the full details of the card before such theories can be further explored. Nevertheless, it’s exciting to see Cardless branching out as it will hopefully mean more intriguing co-branded cards coming in the future.
