T-Mobile and Capital One Officially Launch Co-Branded Credit Card

Telecom T-Mobile is teaming up with Capital One to bring customers a new rewards credit card.

About the T-Mobile Visa Signature Card:

Months after it was first teased, the T-Mobile Visa card has arrived. The new card is issued by Capital One.

With the card, customers can earn 5% back in T-Mobile Rewards when purchasing phones, devices, and accessories at T-Mobile. Plus, all other purchases made using the card earn 2% in rewards. This includes T-Mobile bills.

Another perk of the T-Mobile Visa is that customers will qualify for a $5 per line (up to eight lines) AutoPay discount when using the card. This makes it the only credit card eligible for this discount since the carrier changed its policy in 2023.

Not only does the T-Mobile Visa Signature Card carry no annual fee but also doesn’t charge any foreign transaction fees. T-Mobile customers can now apply for the card online and, starting November 10th, will also have the option to apply at T-Mobile retail locations. Approved customers will also be able to access a digital version of their card, allowing users to start making purchases right away.

What They’re Saying:

Announcing the new card, T-Mobile’s President of Growth and Emerging Businesses André Almeida stated, “The T-Mobile Visa makes the incredible experiences at T-Mobile even better — unlocking extra travel and entertainment perks and turning everyday spending into rewards that help cardholders save on their monthly T-Mobile bill. Our customers are increasingly looking for rewards and more value and T-Mobile Visa is our way of giving our customers both.”

Additionally, Capital One SVP and Head of Card Partnerships Ralph Haro said of the product, “Our focus at Capital One is bringing straightforward, easy-to-use products to customers while relentlessly delivering great value. Through this partnership with T-Mobile, we brought together Capital One’s deep investments in technology and credit card innovation, with T-Mobile’s leadership in wireless, to build a custom credit card program that introduces completely new perks and value for T-Mobile customers.”

My Thoughts:

While earning 2% back on all purchases as well as 5% on device purchases is nice, to me, the highlight here is the AutoPay discount you enjoy on top of that 2% back in rewards. That’s especially true for those who have multiple lines with T-Mobile as the $5 per line per month can quickly add up.

Incidentally, I’ve recently seen reports that a loophole in T-Mobile’s policy had been plugged, disallowing customers from making payments before their billing due date using a credit card while leaving a debit card on file for AutoPay. I have to imagine that this move was at least partially made so that this new product could proudly state that “No other credit card can give you that at T-Mobile.”

Of course, the biggest downside is that the card’s rewards can really only be used for T-Mobile purchases. But, with telecom service being a necessity for most, perhaps this is actually a practical, money-saving option.
