FNBO and BP Announces BPme Rewards Visa Credit Card

With gas prices across the nation still higher than normal (despite oil prices falling for four straight weeks now), BP and First National Bank of Omaha (FNBO) have unveiled a new rewards credit card for customers. With the BPme Rewards Visa, cardholders can earn discounts on gasoline, as well as cashback on everyday purchases.

First, in one of the most interesting perks, BPme Rewards card customers will earn 15¢ off per gallon on BP and Amoco fuel purchases. What’s more, this rate is increased to 30¢ per gallon for the first 60 days after account opening. This discount will be an immediate price reduction posted to the cardholder account.

As for other rewards, cardholders will earn 5% back on non-fuel BP and Amoco purchases, such as car washes and convenience store purchases. Beyond that, the card earns 3% back on grocery purchases, 3% back on dining purchases, and 1% back on everything else. These earnings can then be redeemed for cashback, statement credits, gift cards, and more. Also notable is that the BPme Rewards Visa carries no annual fee.

Announcing the new offering, BP’s VP of marketing Lisa Blalock said in a statement, “We put our customers at the heart of everything we do, this new BPme Rewards Visa gives the best rewards to our most loyal customers.” Blalock continued, “We have enhanced the rewards, provided more choice in the way our customers can redeem and made it simple to save money on all fuel and convenience store purchases at bp & Amoco.”

FNBO EVP of Partner Customer Segment  Jerry J. O’Flanagan added, “We are honored to have the opportunity to work with such a well-known and highly regarded global brand as bp, and are confident their customers will find this new card to be of exceptional value.”

Considering that gas prices have been a major point for many Americans in recent months, the opportunity to save 15¢ per gallon (30¢ for the first two months) is certainly attractive. However, the BPme Rewards card’s 3x on dining and grocery make this a decent pick outside of the current gas price conditions. Plus, while some might have assumed that such a card would only earn gas rewards, the cashback element of this offering makes it even more worthwhile. That said, the doubled gas savings, as opposed to a traditional welcome bonus, may be a drawback for some — and, of course, the availability of BP and Amaco stations in your area will play a role in how useful this card is to you. Still, for consumers looking to save money at the pump in both the short and long term, the BPme Rewards Card could very well be a good option.
