Eddie Bauer Launches Upgraded Credit Card with Imprint

Popular retailer Eddie Bauer has announced an updated rewards credit card in partnership with the FinTech Imprint.

About the card:

This week, Imprint and Eddie Bauer unveiled the new Eddie Bauer World Mastercard. The no-annual-fee card will be issued by First Electronic Bank and will replace the retailer’s current private label card offering.

With the Eddie Bauer World Mastercard, customers can earn an additional 3 Adventure Rewards points per dollar spent on Eddie Bauer purchases. Beyond the retailer, cardholders can also earn 2x points on dining and 2x points on gas. All other purchases earn 1x points. For every 500 points that cardholders earn, they’ll be able to redeem a $5 reward that can be used at Eddie Bauer.

Notably, the points earned with the Eddie Bauer World Mastercard combine with those customers accrue via the Adventure Rewards loyalty program. This means that cardholders can actually earn up to 8x points on purchases from the retailer — including on sale and clearance items. Specifically, shoppers at the entry-level Adventure tier can earn a total of 6x points, those at the Explorer level (achieved by spending at least $300 at the store per year) can earn a total of 7x points, and those with top-tier Guide status (reached by spending $600 or more per year) can earn the full 8x points on Eddie Bauer purchases.

As a page for the new card highlights, the previous Eddie Bauer card (which was issued by Comenity Bank) offered 2x points on purchases at the retailer and free return shipping, but few other benefits. Current cardholders can now update to the new Imprint card as existing cards will no longer work after December 31st, 2024.

To celebrate the card’s launch, Eddie Bauer and Imprint are also offering a special welcome bonus. Currently, new cardholders can earn 500 bonus Adventure Rewards points as well as 15% off their first online Eddie Bauer purchase.

What they’re saying:

In a statement announcing the updated card, Eddie Bauer CEO Tim Bantle said, “At Eddie Bauer, our legacy is rooted in providing customers with bold, high-quality products that empower their adventures. Thanks to Imprint’s cutting-edge technology, the upgraded Eddie Bauer World Mastercard allows us to further this mission, by delivering a more intuitive and personalized card experience that will only make our customers’ adventures more rewarding.”

My thoughts:

Despite being a significant upgrade from the previous Eddie Bauer Credit Card, the new Eddie Bauer World Mastercard from Imprint is still not a good option for most consumers. That’s largely because the card’s rewards can only be used for purchases Eddie Bauer. Moreover, while 2x on dining and gas might sound appealing, there are plenty of 2% flat rate cashback cards consumers can use instead — meaning they’d not only have far more options for earning points but also for redeeming them. So, as is the case with most store credit cards, unless you’re a major Eddie Bauer enthusiast, this card remains one to skip.
