Chase and Hyatt Introduce New Business Credit Card
Small business owners who are also fans of Hyatt got some good news this morning. Today, Chase and Hyatt announced the launch of the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card. The new card does carry a $199 annual fee but comes with a number of benefits for business owners.
Looking at the perks, the first is that cardholders will enjoy automatic Discoverist status with World of Hyatt. Additionally, customers will be able to achieve higher status through their World of Hyatt Business Credit Card spend. For each $10,000 that members spend on the card in a calendar year, they’ll earn 5 Tier-qualifying night credits. As Chase notes, given World of Hyatt’s reduced criteria for 2021, this means cardholders could potentially earn top tier Globalist status by spending $60,000 on the card by the end of this year.
Perhaps the most interesting rewards benefit of the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card is the “adaptive accelerator” 2x category. From now through December 31st, 2022, cardholders will earn 2 points per dollar spent on purchases made in their top three eligible spending categories each quarter. These include dining, shipping, airline tickets (when purchased directly with the airline), local transit & commuting, social media & search engine advertising, car rental agencies, gas stations, and Internet, cable & phone services. From 2023 forward, the 2x will apply to the top two eligible spending categories each quarter instead of three.
Elsewhere, cardholders will earn a total of 9x points on Hyatt purchases. This includes 4x points from the card on top of the 5x base points that World of Hyatt members enjoy. Finally, the card offers 2x points on fitness club and gym membership purchases as well as 1x points on all other purchases.
As for a welcome bonus, the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card is currently offering 75,000 bonus points when new customers spend $7,500 in purchases on the card in their first three months. According to some examples on the card’s site, these points could amount to a five-night stay in Manhattan (at a Category 4), three nights in Riviera Maya (at a Category 6), or 15 nights in Chicago (at a Category 1). Meanwhile, cardholders will have another bonus-earning opportunity if they spend more than $50,000 in a calendar year as they’ll then receive 10% of redeemed points back as Bonus Points for the remainder of the calendar year. Finally, customers will be able to earn up to $100 in statement credits each cardholder anniversary year as they’ll earn a $50 statement credit when they spend $50 or more at any Hyatt property. This benefit can be used up to two times per anniversary year.
Overall, the new World of Hyatt Business Credit Card could be a good option for business owners who frequent Hyatt properties. In particular, while the minimum spend required for the welcome bonus is high compared to most consumer cards, customers could definitely get some major mileage out of the bonus points they’d earn. Of course, it’s interesting that Chase and Hyatt have built-in a change to the card upon launch as the “adaptive accelerator” will get a bit of a downgrade come 2023. Nevertheless, Hyatt’s first business credit card could prove to be a popular one as entrepreneurs return to traveling.
